My main research interest is the interplay of biology, plate-tectonics, and the global biogeochemical cycles of carbon, sulfur and oxygen. I am particularly interested in the biological mediated remineralization of organic matter by sulfate reducing bacteria in subseafloor sediments. This particular group of microorganisms are a major control factor in COS cycling, affecting atmospheric pCO2, and pO2 levels, and the global methane flux.
